THE MOUNTAIN

Real Estate And Community, In The White Mountains Of Arizona

The Blog Community

Today I have a special “Thank You” for some people in the blog community. I have had an issue with WordPress that I could not get solved with Go Daddy who is my web hosting provider, and most anyone I talked to. To be fair, Go Daddy told me up front they did not support WordPress (here after WP), and I’m okay with that. The problem that I had though, from my research on the WP forums, seems to be a Go Daddy issue. To see an article on what my problem was GO HERE

I mainly wanted to thank the guys over at the Real Estate Blog Lab. Dave Smith is the owner of the blog, and seems to attract the coolest people to his web site. The Lab is in my Blogroll over on the right, and has been for a while now because the things he writes about just happen to interest me. A lot of what goes on there is about finding solutions to blogging issues, and Dave is just an extremely cool guy, and happens to be a Realtor in Tucson.

Eric Blackwell from Eric on search was the man with the answer that I needed to fix the problem. Eric has a business helping other business owners market themselves on the web. I am going to subscribe to his feed and put him in my Blogroll as well. Thanks Eric!

This is the blog community. These people helped me out, only because they are good people and have patience for the likes of me, not because they are somehow obligated. And now if I could help them, I would, and I would have fun doing it. This is what makes it a community and why I would love to see other people in the White Mountains get started blogging.

It’s easy to get started and free, unless you want it to be more. But even then it’s not all that expensive if you take the time to learn about open source platforms and how to set them up. But to get started go check out my previous posts on Blogging.

Thank you Dave and Eric and all who helped!

Have a GOOD day.

WordPress 2.3 - I’m There

I’ve been quite busy the past few days. Right before I posted the update on Apache county zoning, my site was down for about 14 hours because I had been trying to install WordPress on my own, which turned out to be an intimidating thing - for me. It was like trying to fix your car over the weekend and finding out on Sunday afternoon when all the parts stores are closed that you forgot to pick up a gasket.

Anyway, I was able to figure it out, and I’m glad I did, because now if something goes wrong I should be able to fix it. This was a huge triumph for me, I was really sweating it. One of my short comings is when I don’t understand something, and don’t know why I’m doing it, I end up screwing it up. I don’t remember things unless I know WHY I need to remember them.

So my biggest issue with installing WordPress was that I didn’t know what MYSQL has to do with PHP, and I didn’t know what tables are or why they need to be there. I didn’t know if I would need to somehow work them over before I was able to make WordPress work. I had created a database, but thought I would have to do more than just create it.

The sad thing is I still don’t understand. Turns out I didn’t need to, but I would still like to know. It turns out that it was easier than my head would let me believe.

If you know the answers to the riddle above I would love for you to leave a very basic explanation in the comment section just so I could at least have a clue as to what is happening behind the scenes.
