Apache County’s New Zoning Laws
If you haven’t heard, Apache County is changing their zoning laws from something that used to be fairly simple to a very complicated ordeal. I don’t know about you but when I moved here 15 years ago, I wanted out of the whole subdivision thing with all their rules and regulations. I didn’t want someone breathing down my neck. If I wanted to rebuild the engine in my pickup no one was there telling me I couldn’t do that because it wasn’t what they wanted to see when they drove by.
To date the new zoning ordinance is 118 pages in length. I have been trying to read it, but have only been able to get about half way through so far. To read what I’m reading go HERE. If you live in Apache county, or if you are thinking of buying there, you may want to check this thing out.
I just talked to Milton at the county planning and zoning department and he told me that they are having a public meeting August 28Th at 8:30pm. Milton said that he has asked that the new zoning take affect on November 1st and that this is one of the things that will be discussed at the meeting.
This may be a good deal for some people but for the little guy it will be pretty tough to get into compliance. The ordinance itself is like having a CC&R where you have less say-so than you would living in a subdivision that you picked out and weighed the pros against the cons when reading the CC&R’s. Again, I think the property values will come up in Apache county because of this, but is it worth it, and are you going to take this opportunity make your feelings known?
